Once Upon A Time, There Was Bush, Gog, And Magog
I definitely did a double take when I first saw this in the news. as it concerns one of my top rated morons of all time I just couldn’t let it go by without commenting.
Apparently, in 2003 while lobbying leaders to put together the Coalition of the Willing (and not so willing in some cases), President Bush spoke to France’s President Jacques Chirac. Bush told him a story about how the Biblical creatures Gog and Magog were at work in the Middle East and how they must be defeated. This worrying episode was confirmed by Chirac. Movie Review: Ankle Biters (2002)
I guess I must be a bit of a masochist as I actually enjoy watching really bad movies. I watch the Sci Fi channel movies for just that reason. They’re so bad they’re actually funny.
Ankle Biters is just such a movie. The quality is well… really, really, really bad. So bad it’s frigging hilarious. The whole movie revolves around a bunch of vampire dwarfs. The script is crap, the acting is crap and the plot is crap. It makes the Sci Fi channel original movies look like Oscar material, which is no mean feat!
How and why this movie got made is beyond me. How on earth did they ever persuade someone to finance it? I don’t think it’s meant to be funny – the cast seem to be taking it seriously enough but I seriously suggest that anybody involved with this movie should not contemplate giving up their day job for a career in Hollywood. The funny thing is that the movie got upgraded from VHS to DVD and then was distributed. Read the rest of this entry »
Charity Spam
My wife and I usually donate to a few of our charities of choice each year and do so online. Recently we made what appears to be a mistake. We don’t (or didn’t) receive many requests through the mail but got one recently to which we chose to donate. Just $10. Not a fortune by anyone’s standards, but we aren’t rich and times are tough.
As a result we seem to have gone on the mailing list of every damn charity out there.
We are very selective about whom we donate to and do not donate to charities that do not conform to the criteria we have. Which is most of them. Read the rest of this entry »
NYPD Cop Fatally Shot By Fellow Officer
It seems the boys in blue have been at it again. An off-duty police officer saw a man breaking into his car and a struggle ensued. When the man broke free the officer (Omar Edwards) pulled his gun and gave chase. That seems a perfectly legitimate thing to do. After all he was a police officer.
A plain clothes patrol unit in an unmarked car saw the chase and stopped. Which is where it all started to go pear-shaped. Now obviously what should have happened is that these officers should have identified themselves. Did they? Nobody knows yet. Time will tell.
But… if they did identify themselves how likely is it that a fellow police officer would ignore that identification rather than identify himself? In Harlem? He’d identify himself pretty damn quick I should think. Read the rest of this entry »
Dial-Up Sucks And So Does Verizon
Running 12 different web sites is a full time occupation and business for me. And like any business it needs to be run efficiently. The trouble is that I can’t get hi-speed Internet in any usable form where I am and I’m only 25 miles from the state capital of WV. My only alternative to dial-up is satellite and that’s no good to me because I need the upload speed (which totally sucks on satellite) not the slightly faster download speed it offers.
“Well, why did you move somewhere where dial-up is your only option?” I hear somebody ask. The answer to which is “I didn’t,” at least so I thought at the time. Before moving to my current location I checked Verizon’s web site to make sure and sure enough it said DSL was available. I even phoned them to make sure. “Yes,” I was told, “DSL is available from that phone number.” Read the rest of this entry »
Low Pump Prices Lure Americans Back To The Road
I was interested to see an article today with the headline “Low pump prices lure Americans back to the road.” Really? Low pump prices? Where?
According to this survey (conducted by AAA) the average pump price in the US was $2.39 per gallon at the time of writing. Although with peak summer demand approaching – not to mention the spurious tax imposed by government at this time – they expect pump prices to peak at $2.50 per gallon. Read the rest of this entry »
Blonde Jokes #3
A blonde woman was speeding down the road in her little red sports car and was pulled over by a woman police officer who was also a blonde.
The blonde cop asked to see the blonde’s driver’s license. She dug through her purse and was getting progressively more agitated.
“What does it look like?” she finally asked. Read the rest of this entry »
Defending The Indefencible
Apparently Darth Cheney has been defending the Bush administration policy of torturing suspects. As previously discussed the “It’s not torture because we don’t call it that” approach to morality is not a valid defence.
As I have already stated in an earlier post torture is torture and it doesn’t matter what you call it, it’s still immoral by any civilized country’s standards. I’m not going to repeat myself so I will just add a quote from the speech: Read the rest of this entry »
Blonde Jokes #2
A blond was shopping at K-Mart and came across a big shiny silver thermos. She was quite fascinated by it, so she picked it up and took it over to the clerk to ask what it was.
The clerk said, “Why, that’s a thermos…. it keeps hot things hot and cold things cold.”
“Wow,” said the blond, “that’s amazing…. I’m going to buy it!” Read the rest of this entry »
Movie Review: Death Note (Desu Nôto) 2006
Death Note is one of those movies that you may well gloss over when browsing – I came across it by accident. It’s Japanese and is the live action version of the anime TV series of the same name. Japan has produced some wonderful movies over the years and there is a great deal of talent over there in the movie industry.
The basic plot revolves around Light Yagami finding a book that has supernatural powers. If a name is written in the book whilst picturing the face of that person then they will die as written or die of a heart attack if no manner of death is specified. Not only that but touching the book gives someone the power to see the Shinigami (God of Death) associated with that particular book. Light decides to make the world a better place by disposing of “evil” elements within the world. Read the rest of this entry »
