Strange Search Terms
I am always interested (just like any other webmaster) to know how visitors found my blog. So I keep an eye on search words and/or phrases that result in hits. The following are some of the slightly stranger terms whereby visitors ended up here.
Do hedgehogs bounce?
Why do hedgehogs like to be bounced?
Hedgehog panties
Adolf the hedgehog
Hitler bouncing
Knickers down in public
Sex in Sven Hassel books
Hedgehog sex
Bloody hedgehog
Japanese hedgehog sex
Spam Glorious Spam
I’m just curious to know if anybody out there has actually had any success in dealing with spam from companies like Keen (www.keen.com)? The reason I ask is that my other half is a Keen member and started receiving unsolicited e-mails from a Keen member well over a year ago now.
That Keen member is called Astrodaija.
The e-mail unsubscribe button doesn’t seem to work – she’s unsubscribed 11 times now.
Reporting the member to Keen doesn’t work – that’s been done 3 times. They still let Astrodaija’s unwanted mail spam her.
As for the much vaunted CAN-SPAM legislation I wonder if that’s worth the paper it’s written on as reporting Astrodaija there 3 times hasn’t had any effect either.
Keen’s service provider doesn’t seem interested. Despite their “we don’t tolerate spam” spoutings they haven’t even had the courtesy to reply.
So… just what do we have to do to get this damn spammer off our backs?
Quotey Quotes Is Here
It’s been a little while, so my apologies for that. I’ve been playing with a new pet project. For those of you who know me, you will not be surprised to learn that I now have a quotes web site (www.quoteyquotes.com), which I have been building over the last few weeks.
Why a quotes site? Well, I have always been interested in pertinent quotes and have been collecting them for years. And there are a few web sites out there already which aren’t too bad. But they all have their flaws. I’m very particular about the way quotes are categorized. It always ticks me off when I go to a section and find quotes in there that really don’t belong. I also dislike sloppy punctuation and spelling. You’d be surprised how many of these sites must simply copy and paste each other’s content. So many have the same spelling mistake(s)! Pop-Up & Pop-Under Windows – A Note To Webmasters
It never ceases to amaze me how many web sites I visit make use of pop-up or pop-under windows. It used to be just the really skanky sites that used these all the time, but I have noticed a trend recently in some far more mainstream web sites that have started utilizing them.
I have about twelve web sites at the last count and not one of them has ever used this technique. Nor will they ever. Pop-ups (or unders) are annoying and iniquitous. No visitor likes them. And for all you web masters out there that think pop-ups are the greatest thing since sliced bread try conducting a survey and see what results you get. I did years ago and the results showed that an overwhelming 98% “hated” them. And the other 2% “didn’t care.” Nobody voted in favor of them. Read the rest of this entry »
Microsoft’s Bing Allows Easy Porn Access
I was interested to see that Microsoft’s new Bing search engine has come in for a bit of a hammering as it allows easy preview access to porn videos.
I know Microsoft is a favorite whipping boy for many, but why are they being singled out? Porn is readily available from any search engine and a 6 year old could figure out how to access it. A simple 2 clicks of the mouse is all it takes. Read the rest of this entry »
Naked Hedgehog Sex Surpasses Sharking
I am always interested to see how people find my blog and up until now the number one search term has been “sharking.” Sharking for those of you who don’t know is all about running up to a girl and yanking her knickers down in public whilst somebody else films the whole thing. The result is then posted on the Internet.
Now being a man of the world I can accept that sex (and sex related topics) are the main searches on any search engine. But the latest search term to feature highly in my “hits” really makes me wonder. Read the rest of this entry »
Dial-Up Sucks And So Does Verizon
Running 12 different web sites is a full time occupation and business for me. And like any business it needs to be run efficiently. The trouble is that I can’t get hi-speed Internet in any usable form where I am and I’m only 25 miles from the state capital of WV. My only alternative to dial-up is satellite and that’s no good to me because I need the upload speed (which totally sucks on satellite) not the slightly faster download speed it offers.
“Well, why did you move somewhere where dial-up is your only option?” I hear somebody ask. The answer to which is “I didn’t,” at least so I thought at the time. Before moving to my current location I checked Verizon’s web site to make sure and sure enough it said DSL was available. I even phoned them to make sure. “Yes,” I was told, “DSL is available from that phone number.” Read the rest of this entry »
It Really Pisses Me Off When…
I run a small web based business and one of the items I sell is an eBook. Once paid for a download link valid for 24 hours is provided by e-mail. I’ve sold several hundred of these eBooks and nobody has had a problem. Except Yahoo users.
It really pisses me off when I start to get snotty e-mails from a customer. The latest saga… Read the rest of this entry »
