Nikon Joins Competitors in Raising U.S. Prices Due to Trump Administration Tariffs

Nikon has become the latest photography company forced to adjust its U.S. pricing in response to the Trump administration’s tariff-heavy trade policies. The move follows similar announcements from major competitors, including Sigma, which confirmed a June 2 price hike, and Canon, which raised prices late last month. Sony also increased costs across its camera, lens, and accessory lineup earlier this week, with jumps ranging from 10% to 35%.

Unlike its rivals, Nikon had remained silent until now, maintaining stable prices despite ongoing tariff uncertainties. However, the company’s brief statement, released today, offered little clarity by failing to specify which products would be affected or the extent of the price increases. The vague announcement leaves consumers and retailers in the dark, adding to the frustration caused by broader market disruptions.

“At Nikon, we remain committed to providing the highest quality imaging products and value to our customers. Due to the recent tariffs, a necessary price adjustment for products will take effect on June 23, 2025.

We will be carefully monitoring any tariff developments and may adjust pricing as necessary to reflect the evolving market conditions.

We wish to thank our customers for their understanding and know that we are taking every possible step to minimize the impact on our community.”

As tariffs continue to reshape the photography industry, manufacturers and buyers alike face growing challenges, with no clear resolution in sight. Nikon’s delayed but inevitable price adjustment underscores the widespread impact of U.S. trade policies on global tech markets.

It had to happen, of course, but it’s still sad to see another company raise prices affecting both hobbyists and professionals alike. I have already seen an increase in used prices for other brands and I expect the same to happen to Nikon products.
